Review: Volcano Village Estates (Big Island, Hawaii)

During our recent trip to the Big Island of Hawaii, we stayed a night at Volcano Village Estates, a unique vacation rental property located in the heart of the quaint village of Volcano.

The Estate was comprised of several semi-private bungalows, each unique in build and amenities.

About

One of the highlights of staying at Volcano Village Estates (or perhaps THE highlight), was its proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The park entrance was just a short drive away, making it easy to explore the various trails and viewpoints throughout the park.

Booking

We booked Volcano Village Estates through Booking.com where we utilized our one-time CapitalOne Venture X $200 sign-up bonus.

The stay itself cost $290.40 [all-in], which brought our total cost for the stay to $90.40.

Location & Parking

The property conveniently located near the village of Volcano on Highway 11, technically within walking distance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (a 35 minute walk) or about a 5 minute drive time.

The Estate has free parking for guests, although it was limited, as the guests arriving earliest got an official parking space, while the stragglers my have to park in special spots designated by the staff.

FHOP Tip: The entrance to Volcano Village Estates is “blink and you will miss it,” so slow down to make the turn onto the one-lane road when the GPS says you are getting close.

The Office & Check-In

Check-in was quick and painless thanks to the staff, who promptly handed us our key to our room at the front of the Dillingham House.

The Dillingham House

The Dillingham House was a spacious three-bedroom home divided into several areas, we stayed in the Owner’s Suite (AKA the Garden Suite).

The house was beautifully decorated with local artwork and historic inspired furniture which added to the ambiance.

The Bottom-Line Review: Volcano Village Estates

Overall, our stay at the Dillingham House’s Owner’s Suite at Volcano Village Estates was a memorable and enjoyable experience.

The property’s proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, combined with the comfortable accommodations and tranquil location, made it the perfect “launchpad” for both our night hike to the Volcano (a must-do) and early morning entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

The helpful staff, unique amenities, and location, location, location – made Volcano Village Estates a place I could easily recommend to anyone visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Just make sure to get a bungalow with a jacuzzi.

Final Rating: 7.75 out of 10.
