Review: Tropicana Las Vegas – A DoubleTree By Hilton (Final Weekend Ever!)
The Tropicana Las Vegas, located on the iconic Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, was a renowned casino hotel that operated from April 4, 1957, to April 2, 2024. Known for its tropical-themed decor and elegant ambiance, the Tropicana was a landmark in the city’s history, often referred to as the “Tiffany of the Strip” due to its manicured lawns, balconied rooms, and beautiful showroom. Over the years, the resort underwent several renovations and ownership changes, but it remained a beloved fixture on the Strip.
In its final years it was branded a DoubleTree by Hilton and featured a 44,570 sq ft casino and 1,467 rooms, and continued to attract visitors (including myself) even in its final days with its nostalgic charm and historical significance to Las Vegas.
The resort finally closed its doors in 2024 to make way for a new proposed Major League Baseball stadium and a proposed new Bally’s Las Vegas resort. Time will tell if those project come to fruition but the Tropicana’s legacy will live on in the memories of those who experienced its unique blend of glamour and history during its monumental 67-year run.

The Bottom-Line Review: Review: Tropicana Las Vegas – A DoubleTree By Hilton (Final Weekend Ever!)
OK, so this is going to be a totally biased review because it was the final weekend ever and in truth, the Tropicana was operating with a skeleton crew of employees who knew they were going to be laid off in mere hours.
With that said, I’m still going to rate our final stay at the Tropicana Las Vegas a 9 out of 10 rating, which underscores underscores its colorful history and significant impact on Las Vegas. At one time, anybody who was anybody stayed here. It was that kind of place. The only reason I didn’t rate it a 10 out of 10 was because the front desk guy wouldn’t give me a key that worked until I tried 3 different room keys at 3 in the morning.
The Tropicana Las Vegas was renowned for its stunning stained glass ceiling, an Art Nouveau masterpiece installed in 1979. This intricate, painted glass artwork, often referred to as the “Tiffany of the Strip,” featured vibrant colors and elegant designs, making it one of the most iconic features of the resort. As the resort closed its doors in 2024, the stained glass ceiling was carefully removed and placed into storage. As of this post, discussions are ongoing about its future, with hopes that it may be preserved and possibly reinstalled in a new location, ensuring that this piece of Las Vegas history continues to be appreciated by future generations.
As the resort approached its final hours before closing on April 2, 2024, there was a palpable sense of nostalgia and celebration for everybody that was there. Guests and longtime patrons gathered to reminisce and honor the Tropicana’s legacy and play the slots one last time (heck, we even won $400 on Huff’N’Puff!). Though the Tropicana’s physical presence on the Strip has ended, its legacy and influence continue to be cherished by those who experienced its distinctive blend of glamour and history.
Final Weekend Ever Stay Rating: 9 out of 10
