From Crater Lake National Park, we made our way back down South where we’d stay the night in Redding, California.

I didn’t know much about Redding, but I had heard good things about the Sundial Bridge, so I figured, “what better way to see it than to stay at the Sheraton Redding Hotel At The Sundial Bridge”?

Location & Parking

Although I didn’t know it when I booked it, the Sheraton Redding Hotel seemed to be located in one of the prime areas of the City of Redding, as the hotel sits on Turtle Bay, right next to the Sacramento River and just a little ways from Downtown Redding and the Mount Shasta shopping mall.

Turtle Bay is also home to the Turtle Bay Exploration Park, the Rodeo Grounds, the Redding Civic Auditorium and Redding Memorial Park.

Parking at the Sheraton was $13 per night.

FHOP Tip: One should note there are several different parking lots for the various attractions in greater Turtle Bay. Be sure to park on property.

Lobby

The lobby of the Sheridan was surprisingly modern and upscale – and bustling with tourists.

Front Desk & Check-In

Check-in was quick and easy, conducted by friendly and professional front desk staff that recognized me for my Bonvoy Platinum loyalty and offered me a room upgrade to a Sheridan Club Room on a higher floor.

Room Entrance

Like the hotel, the room appeared to be relatively new and certainly well-kept. The room was well-lit and clean, and attractively accented with artwork of the Sundial Bridge.

Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and well-lit and came stocked with [communal sized] Gilchrist and Soames products.

View From The Room

The view from our room was of the parking lot and the Redding Civic Auditorium.

Sheraton Club

At the time of our stay, most hotels were still in the midst of pandemic lockdowns – and thus hotel club lounge closures – so I was downright shocked to discover the Sheraton Club was open for business being that I hadn’t visited a hotel club lounge for almost two years.

After dropping off our bags in a room, we headed over to the Sheraton Club lounge which still bore the SPG Starwood Preferred Guest* signage (*yes, a tear was shed).

We were there around 4:00 PM when the Club was serving complementary beer and wine and light snacks.

The interior of the Sheraton Club was large with several big screen TV’s, couches, and tables. Being that it was summertime, most hotel guests [understandably] wanted to hangout on the lovely and large balcony with the view of Turtle Bay.

Dinner At Mosaic

After checking out the amazing and impressive Sundial Bridge, river, and surrounding parks, it was time for dinner.

We decided to eat at Mosaic, which was located downstairs in the hotel – technically in a separate building from the main hotel.

You can enter through the lobby by passing through the art gallery connector, or you can enter from outside.

Mosaic was modern, elegant and upscale – and quite popular.

Mosaic Back Patio

We opted to have dinner on the back patio to enjoy the warm summer afternoon (although that also meant a few mosquitoes enjoyed us as well despite the restaurant’s many citronella candles).

We went with the pizza and beer, and that was hands down the absolute correct decision.

Breakfast At Sheraton Club

As Bonvoy Platinum guests, we were given a complimentary breakfast at the Sheraton Club as a benefit.

Again, the Sheraton Club was a great choice – not only was the breakfast free – it was delicious and consisted of all the American standards including eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, yogurt and orange juice.

The Sheraton Club was definitely more crowded for breakfast, but we were still able to find a place to sit.

The Sundial Bridge

The sundial bridge is a [“the”] “must see” attraction in Redding.

Luckily, the bridge is located just steps away from the hotel, simply follow the sidewalk from the front of the hotel into the Turtle Bay park and the Sundial Bridge will be straight ahead. You can’t miss it.

The Sundial Bridge crosses the Sacramento River from the park at Turtle Bay to the Plaza de California, which also close to the McConnell Arboretum & Botanical Gardens.

The Bottom-Line Review: Sheraton Redding Hotel At The Sundial Bridge (California)

Wow, what a hidden gem!

We absolutely loved our stay that Sheraton Redding Hotel at The Sundial Bridge. This was partly because we had no expectations going in, but mainly because the hotel was so impressive.

The service staff were friendly and overall amazing in general, the location in Turtle Bay was probably the best you could get in the city of Redding, and the Sundial Bridge was an incredible and worthwhile attraction. How is it that more people don’t know about it?

I of course have to mention the wonderful Sheraton Club and which was perfect for an afternoon snack and breakfast, and the Mosaic restaurant which was a cool place to hang out with great food and local craft beer.

Really, what more could we ask from a hotel on a summer road trip stop?

I highly recommend the Sheridan Redding Hotel at the Sundial Bridge to couples, road-trippers, families, staycationers, and business travelers alike. It’s one of those hotels that really does [successfully] check all the boxes.
