For a while now, I’ve wanted to checkout the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa, in part because I grew up in New Mexico, and in part because I’ve heard good things about the resort.

I finally had the chance to stay there a couple months back, here’s our review.

The World of Hyatt loyalty program’s Explorist status benefits include complimentary room upgrades (if available), late check-out, and excellerated points earning. In our case, we were given a room “upgade” to a higher floor.

Location & Parking

The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort is located in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, which is approximately 30 minutes north of Albuquerque. The resort is situated on [an isolated] 550 acres of land and is surrounded by the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande River.

The resort offers both valet and self-parking options. Valet parking is available for $25 per day, while self-parking is complimentary (included in the Resort Fee). The parking lot is located near the main entrance of the resort, making it easy for guests to access their vehicles.

FHOP Tip: The resort is isolated, but it is a small “town amongst itself,” meaning it likely has everything you’d need – including a Starbucks. If you do want to grab some outside snacks or gear, it’s best to do so before you arrive.

Bedroom

The “2 queen beds with balcony room” accommodation at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort was spacious and comfortable.

The property didn’t appear to be full on the weekend we were there, so I was a little disappointed we didn’t get much of a room upgrade.

Still, the room featured a balcony with views of the Kiva Pool area. The room was elegantly decorated and equipped with modern amenities such as a flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, and a mini-fridge.

Bathroom

The Tamaya Mist toiletry products provided by the resort were an in-house brand from the properties spa. They smelled good (perhaps on the masculine side) and seemed to be of good quality. The products included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion.

Dining Options

The resort offered several bar and dining options, including the Corn Maiden, which served contemporary American cuisine, and the Santa Ana Cafe, which offered casual dining options. The Rio Grande Lounge seemed like a great place to relax and enjoy a drink while taking in the views of the surrounding Sandia landscape, but we didn’t get the chance to check it out on this stay.

Dinner At Santa Ana Cafe

We did have dinner at the Santa Ana Cafe, which had a Sunday Night Dinner Buffet going on on the night we ate there for $28 per person.

We opted for the buffet and we were not disappointed. I went with the Prime Rib, chicken enchiladas, and mac and cheese – along with a salad. All we delicious.

The Property Interior

Walking the property, we were quick to notice how big the property was. There were several shops and even a starbucks wrapped around the Valet/Town Square area of the resort.

The Property Exterior

Even more impressive than the interior was the property’s vast exterior nestled next to the Rio Grande.

Swimming Pools

There were a couple of pools including the adults only Kiva Pool and the Family Pool which had it’s own waterslide.

FHOP Tip: What’s Nearby: There are plenty of things to do near the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort. Guests can explore the nearby hiking and biking trails, including the Bosque Trail, which runs along the Rio Grande River. The resort is also located near several shopping centers and other activities such as hot air balloon rides.

Riverside Hiking Trails (Bosque Trail)

We spent one afternoon hiking (more like walking) the Bosque Trail to the riverside. It was a nice and relaxing way to check-out the riverside/cottonwood ecosystem right before dinner.

The trail is well-marked, but not that easy to follow because there are so many offshoot side trails. Luckily for us, I had a Garmin watch with trail navigation. If I did it again, I’d probably try biking it.

The Bottom-Line Review: Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort And Spa (Albuquerque, New Mexico)

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa. The resort offered an upscale – and quite reasonably priced uniquely New Mexican experience. Its the kind of place where people have weddings, where the local business C-Suite sets have destination conferences, and where well-to-do family go for a weekend getaway.  It is also quite easily one the best resorts in New Mexico.

The resort is situated in a beautiful (but isolated) location, so know that before going in. Overall, I’d say the resort does a great job tastefully and respectfully blending a modern luxury resort with the timeless beauty of the New Mexican cultural elements. I’d easily stay there again, especially for only 12,000 points a night.

Final Rating: 8.5 out of 10
