On a recent stay at The Hyatt Regency Casablanca over four nights, I decided to cash in one of my Explorist club passes for access to the Hyatt Regency Club Lounge.

Here is my review of this Regency Club.

Review: Hyatt Regency Club Lounge At The Hyatt Regency Casablanca (Casablanca, Morocco)

After a long flight from Europe and a minor transportation snafu with the The Hyatt Regency Casablanca (which they more than made up for with an amazing upgrade), I was ready for a drink (or two).

I headed straight for the Regency Club.

The Entrance

The lounge entrance is located on the 8th floor of the hotel, down the hall (past the elevators).

There is a very small room with a check-in desk and this little floral decoration with golden orbs (below).

The Hyatt Regency Club Lounge

This Regency Lounge was not all that big, in fact is was just one large room. However, there always seemed to be enough space to accommodate all guests to the lounge.

The Alcohol Question

In certain Islamic countries alcohol is strictly prohibited, even for foreigners.

Not knowing for sure whether this was the case in Morocco or not, I made my way over to a staff member to ask the “million dollar question”. Just then, I noticed a small silver bucket with ice next to a small (but mighty) number of alcoholic bottles.

Most of the usual suspects were there – vodka, scotch, gin, etc. As I reached over to pour, the staff member politely asked if he could pour my drinks for me, to which I was [of course] agreeable.

I ordered, and he delivered them to my table (and he also kept ’em coming).

Late-Night Snacks

On the second night, I stopped by the Regency Club for some late-night snacks. I arrived at about 9:00 pm.  The Regency Club was supposed to close at 10:00 pm.

All the food and drinks (and snacks) had been put away. I verified the closing time as listed with the attendant and he confirmed it was 10:00 pm. The staff member recommended I arrive next time before 8:00 pm to ensure there would still be food available. I wasn’t pleased with this, because they were effectively closing 2 hours early on a Club Lounge pass that I had to earn and use, but whatever, “OK, fair enough”, I thought.

The next night, I arrived at 7:45 pm. And guess what? You guessed it, everything had again been put away. This time I complained to the staff member (who was also the service manger) and he just said, “I’m sorry sir”, and shrugged.

I get things may work a little different in other countries sometimes, but I have a problem when I’m being charged a Club Lounge pass and the Club Lounge is not keeping to its own posted and published hours. That’s not good management and its not good for the guests.

Breakfast

As miffed as I was with the Regency Club for the late-night snacks, the opposite was true for breakfast.

The Club Lounge opened early at 6:30 am (before most of the tours begin) and the morning spread was good and delicious. In fact, the quality of the food and the coffee was consistently great everyday. Early breakfast was simply delightful and delicious (and key)!

The local apricot yogurt and the pomegranate fruit were both excellent touches for breakfast.

Bottom-Line Review: Review: Hyatt Regency Club Lounge At The Hyatt Regency Casablanca (Casablanca, Morocco)

Alcohol? Check. Great drinks? Check. Awesome and early breakfast? Check. Great ambiance, views, and consistent food and drink quality? Check, check, and check.

Really, besides the super-annoying and unannounced “early closings”, this Regency Club was great.

It’s a no-brainer to burn a Club pass here, especially if you’re staying at the Hyatt Regency Casablanca over several days and need an early and delicious breakfast. Just don’t expect any late-night snacks.

Cheers!
