After my previous review on the Hyatt House San Diego/Carlsbad, I’m keeping the “vanilla” Hyatt hotel theme going with the Hyatt Place San Diego/Vista-Carlsbad.
Let me be clear, “vanilla” hotels are not a bad thing. In fact, I’d argue that choosing a vanilla hotel is a great way to maximize your points in terms of both point savings and bang-for-your-buck value.
Additionally, some hotel brands (such as Hyatt Place and Hyatt House) also have complimentary breakfast, making them the perfect place for hotels stays where the hotel itself is not necessarily the destination (like on a family vacation to San Diego).

About The Hyatt Place San Diego/Vista-Carlsbad
The World Of Hyatt Redemption
This Hyatt Place is a Category 2 Hyatt property, redeemable for 8,000 points.
On the night I stayed there, the price of a Studio King went for $263.37 USD.
This meant my World of Hyatt Redemption was 3.29 CPP (excellent for a Hyatt redemption).
The Lobby & Check-In
Check-in was quick and easy.
I was recognized for my status, however, I was not given a room upgrade.
As a World of Hyatt Explorist, I was allowed to pick up 2 bottles of [complimentary] water from the refrigerator before heading to my room.
The Hallway
The Studio King Room
As expected, the room was simple and clean.
The Living Area
Room Amenities
Room amenities included a microwave, refrigerator, coffee and tea, and a safe.
The Bathroom
The bathroom’s sink was in a separate area from from the shower and toilet.
I view this as a positive, as it means multiple people can get ready at once (which is great when you are in a hurry to get to the San Diego Zoo).

The Bottom-Line Review: Hyatt Place San Diego/Vista-Carlsbad (San Diego, CA)
My stay at the Hyatt Place San Diego/Vista-Carlsbad was perfectly standard. And I mean that in a good way.
Everything went as expected. The room was clean and comfortable, the Seattle’s Best Coffee was hot, and the breakfast was good.
Final Rating: 7/10 – For 8,000 points, this Hyatt Category 2 hotel is a steal, especially for families with young children who are using this hotel as a “base” for their San Diego vacation.
