Early in 2021, World of Hyatt offered its members the chance to earn expedited status with just half the usual required numbers of stays.
Taking them up on that offer required me to complete a few paid stays – which brings me to the mattress run I did at the Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo.
It was cost-effective sure, but was it a good hotel?
Review: Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo
For the low price of about $108 per night (which is about as low as you can go in Los Angeles), I booked 4 nights in a “King Bed (with sofa bed)” room.
Location And Parking
The Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo is located in a sleepy [and industrial] corner of El Segundo, just south of LAX.
Although not the ideal location to explore the shopping and dining options of El Segundo, it is the ideal location for getting in and out of LAX with minimal hassle and maximum privacy.
There was plenty of easy self-parking available (which required passing through an automated gate) for a daily cost of $18.
The Front Desk & Check-In
Upon check-in, I was greeted by a friendly staff member and welcomed and recognized for being a WOH member.
I was told I’d been upgraded to a room on a higher floor.

Room Entrance
Arriving at the imposing steel door that was my room entrance, I wasn’t expecting much.
Truth be told, I’m always a little sketched out when staying at value brands next to big-city airports.
However, I was pleased to find a large, well-lit, and clean room consistent with what I’ve come to expect from Hyatt Place.

The Bottom-Line Review: Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo
I wasn’t expecting much from a big-city airport value brand hotel. With that said, all my expectations were pleasantly exceeded at the Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo.
The service was great, the hotel was clean (and appeared to be relatively new), and the price point was a great value for L.A. There were some minor signs of wear in the elevators and hallways, but that’s to be expected at an airport hotel.
While I wouldn’t recommend the Hyatt Place Los Angeles/LAX/El Segundo as a “vacation hotel” for couples or families, I would easily recommend it for solo travelers looking for an easy in-and-out of L.A., travelers looking for a value Hyatt hotel on a quick stopover, business travelers on a budget, and those with early morning flight connections.
Overall Rating: 7 out of 10.
