Review: Hyatt Place Delano (CA)

As you may know, we travel to Sequoia National Park about three or four times a year on average.

With that said, we don’t really have a “go-to” hotel for when we make that trip. That’s why we were excited to find out Hyatt had opened a new hotel within range Sequoia National Park, Hyatt Place Delano.

Is Hyatt Place Delano a good hotel option? Is it a good hotel option for visiting Sequoia National Park?

Review: Hyatt Place Delano (CA)

Location & Parking

Hyatt Place Delano is located in California’s Central Valley about two hours and fifteen minutes north of Los Angeles, or about four hours southeast of San Francisco.

Hyatt Place Delano lies between Visalia and Bakersfield along CA Highway 99. It’s about 45 minutes away from the town of Visalia (which is considered the gateway town to Sequoia National Park).

The drive from Hyatt Place Delano to the park entrance takes about one hour and forty-five minuets, while the drive to the Giant Forest & the famous General Sherman Tree takes about two and a half hours.

The Hyatt Place has a large parking lot with plenty of free parking.

FHOP Tip: What’s Nearby: Hyatt Place Delano is located to next to a new shopping development called the Delano Marketplace Shopping Mall which includes a Walmart Supercenter, a Home Depot, a Ross Dress for Less (among others), and a plethora of restaurants including Starbucks, Panda Express, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell (to name just a few).

World of Hyatt Booking & Redemption

The nightly rate during our stay started at $145 USD for a “Two Queen Beds” room ($180.73 total with taxes and fees).

Hyatt Place Delano is a World of Hyatt Category 2 property bookable for 8,000 points

This was a good redemption value for Hyatt points at 2.26 CPP, however I opted to book with cash due to the low rate.

Lobby

As we entered the lobby, it was apparent this hotel was relatively brand new.

Front Desk & Check-In

As with most other Hyatt Places, check-in was quick and uneventful.

I was handed my room key in no time and told I’d been given a room on a higher floor.

Bedroom

We found our room clean overall, although the carpet was heavily stained in some places and there was a mystery residue on the alarm clock radio.

The beds were very comfortable and we slept like babies.

Living Area

Stains on the carpet (bottom-right)

Stains all over the section of carpet by the desk and television.

I don’t know what that is on the clock, and I don’t want to know

Room Amenities

Bathroom

The bathroom seemed to be thoroughly cleaned and pretty much looked like any other Hyatt Place’s bathroom.

Breakfast

The complimentary breakfast was served downstairs in the kitchen area (past the bar).

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the hotel served “grab n go” boxes which consisted of a breakfast sandwich, a banana, some yogurt, and a Kellogg’s breakfast bar.

The Bottom-Line Review: Hyatt Place Delano (CA)

As a “midway” hotel, the Hyatt Place Delano is great for one night if you are just passing through and need a place to crash, or if you happen to be visiting friends and family in the Delano area.

If however, you were looking to make Hyatt Place Delano your “home base” for a multi-day trip to Sequoia National Park, you may want to look somewhere a little bit closer like the town of Visalia or the town of Three Rivers to shave off an hour+ off your drive each way.

The Hyatt Place Delano a “standard” Hyatt Place, and that’s a good thing. You know what you’re getting, you know what the room is going to look like, you know what the breakfast is going to taste like, you know the parking is going to be free, and you know your stay will be a good value.

What else do you really need?
