Review: Gray Wolf Inn & Suites (West Yellowstone, Montana)

Gray Wolf Lodge, in the town of West Yellowstone, Montana, is a standard hotel with a rustic twist and modern amenities. The hotel’s name drew inspiration from the rich history of wolves in Yellowstone – and its close proximity to the popular Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center.

Location & Parking

The Gray Wolf Inn & Suites is located directly across the street from the [awesome] Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center. It was just two blocks away from the West Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The historic downtown area, replete with restaurants, shops, and museums, was within walking distance.

Gray Wolf Lodge offered free on-site parking, although most available parking spots were only found at the back of the hotel.

Front Desk & Check-In

The lobby area of the lodge was welcoming, complete with a cozy restaurant space and complimentary WiFi.

Bedroom

Overall, the bedroom was clean and in good condition.

We were pleasantly surprised to find a cute little stuffed wolf animal on the bed – until we saw the price tag – $25! Needless to say, that little wolf pup stayed wrapped in plastic.

Breakfast

The lodge offered a daily limited continental breakfast that included breads, fruit, pastries, cereal, juice, tea, and coffee.

I went with the Tornados and Captain Crunch – also known as “the breakfast of champions”.

The Property Interior

The hotel boasted an indoor heated pool and a 24-hour fitness center.

What’s Nearby

The lodge’s location offered a plethora of activities, namely a major gateway to Yellowstone National Park and the nearby Grand Tetons National Park. There is also the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center which turned out to be an awesome half-day visit.

The hotel was also near a variety of dining and shopping options, including a couple of our favorite spots – The Slippery Otter Pub and The Buffalo Bar.

Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center

We took some photos and video of the Grizzlies playing, and the wolves feeding on fish.

Being that we didn’t actually see any Grizzlies or Wolves in Yellowstone on that trip, seeing them at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center was a nice consolation.

The Bottom-Line Review: Gray Wolf Inn & Suites (West Yellowstone, Montana)

The Gray Wolf Inn in Montana offers a solid experience, with about as good a location as you can get near an entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The hotel’s proximity to the Grizzly Discovery Center is just icing on the cake. The rooms, particularly the 2 Queen Bedroom, provided a clean & comfortable (if not basic) stay that is perfect for couples or families.  The daily limited continental breakfast, while not extravagant, offers a decent and filling start to the day.

In the end, it’s really all about the hotel’s location near Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks and – overall – the Gray Wolf Inn delivers a satisfying “base camp” for travelers looking to explore the natural wonders of Montana and Greater Yellowstone.
