On the first night of our Disneyland adventure, we opted to stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Orange County (not to be confused with the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Convention Center).

Review: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Orange County (CA)

The hotel was located very close to the “happiest place on earth”, but was it a good stay?

The Arrival

The DoubleTree was easy to find – although its angular building shape made finding the entrance to the hotel (which was around back, down the long driveway) a little strange.

As we entered the lobby, it was clear this was a very popular hotel, as it was jam-packed with tourists who were no doubt there for one reason and one reason only, to go to the nearby Disneyland parks.

The lobby was unexpectedly packed and there was a large Indian Wedding taking place in the ballroom next door at 10:30 PM at night. Like I said, this DoubleTree was popular.

Location & Parking

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Orange County is located only four miles away from Disneyland and California Adventure (about a 10 minute or less drive from the hotel).

It’s also located close to Angel Stadium, the Honda Center, the Anaheim Convention Center, and Chapman University.

The DoubleTree has self-parking for $23 per night; valet parking was not available.

FHOP Tip: If you’re unable to find parking in the large parking lot directly across from the lobby,  fret not. There is ample parking in the parking structure around the corner from the ballroom, parking is still $23 per night.

Price, Points, & Booking Redemption

  • Average Price Per Night During Stay: $270 ($296.41 with taxes and fees)
  • Room Type: “1 King Bed Premium Room”
  • Hilton Honors Points Required: 40,000 points (per night)
  • CPP for Redemption: 0.74 CPP
  • Point Redemption Value: Good (for a Hilton Honors redemption)

We opted to use points due to the relatively low number of points required to redeem the free night.

Front Desk & Check-In

The line at the front desk was about five people deep, and there didn’t appear to be any lines dedicated to Hilton Honors members. I give the front desk staff much credit because I can tell with how busy it was, then I can see that they were really working hard.

I was politely greeted and recognized for my Diamond status; although I was greatly disappointed when I learned they didn’t have any of their warm signature DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies left, for which they profusely apologized.

Room Upgrade

I was informed that as a Diamond member, I had been given an upgrade which [strangely] required a call to the manager for approval. To my surprise, I was informed that I had been given the Junior Parlor Suite for the night (which was one of their largest rooms).

I told the front desk staff that I didn’t need such a large room as I was only there for the night and that we planned to check out early, but her response was, “well, you can call up some people and have a nice party”.

Touché.

Elevator Area

It was clear when we arrived at the long line waiting for the elevators that all the elevators – except for one – were out of service. This caused an extremely long wait (especially for a hotel with as many floors is the DoubleTree).

Nevertheless, we finally arrived in our floor and were eager to check out our Junior Parlor Suite. We were given two different room keys as the suite was actually two joined rooms.

Hallway

The Anaheim “A” was visible out of the hallway window.

Room Entrance

The first key let us into the first room which was a “standard room” with a conjoining door.
This room (the bedroom) was perfectly fine and unremarkable which was standard for a Hilton DoubleTree. More importantly, it was clean.

Room Amenities

Bathroom #1

Like the room, the bathroom was standard for Hilton DoubleTree and cleaned to a shine.

The toiletries of choice were the Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena and Lavender brand (which do have a pleasant smell).

The Parlor Suite Room

Leaving the bedroom, we opened up the conjoining door and headed into the Parlor Suite. This room did not have a bed, but it did have a large lounge area, and an office space, another TV, its own room amenities, and its own bathroom.

Room Wear

This room appeared to have not been used in some time, and from the looks of the wear and tear of the room – it’s seen its fair share of hard OC parties.

Breakfast

For breakfast, we were given a hotel credit of $15 per person as Diamond elite members. We had planned to eat breakfast at Trofi Restaurant, but we soon realized that Trofi wouldn’t be open until we were already through the gates of Disneyland.

That meant our only option was to spend our $30 credit at the KoffeeKITCHEN. Believe it or not, spending $30 for breakfast there was harder than it sounds. We grabbed some Starbucks coffees, a couple of pastries, some fruit, and some sandwiches and bottled water to go nice and I still don’t think we hit the $30 mark.

The Bottom-Line Review: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Orange County (CA)

Our stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Orange County was good overall.

Consistent with most DoubleTrees by Hilton, this hotel had a good product in a good location at a good value. This particular DoubleTree had noticeably standout service from the staff even though this hotel was absolutely packed with guests.

I can easily recommend this hotel to anybody going to Disneyland or California Adventure as it’s very close to the parks and parking structures. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Anaheim – Orange County is reasonably priced and chock-full of hotel amenities making it perfect for families, large groups, and tourists on a budget from across the country (and the world).

Final Rating: 7 out of 10
