Review: Andaz Napa (California)

From Redding, California, we continued southward via the Scenic Route (highways 20 and 53) to Napa, California, where we’d stay at the Andaz Napa.

I’ve stayed at the incredible Alila Napa Valley several times in the past, but I’ve never had the chance to stay at Andaz Napa until now.

Location & Parking

Andaz Napa is located on the west end of the bustling downtown Napa, and it’s just a short walk to the many dining, shopping, and drinking options downtown has to offer.

Andaz Napa is also close to the Oxbow Public Market and the [semi-essential] Napa Valley Wine Train.

Parking at Andaz Napa cost $20 for overnight self-parking and $32 for overnight valet parking. Parking was free for Hyatt Globalists.

Lobby

The lobby of Andaz Napa Had a warm and cozy feel due to the woody accents, wine barrels, and the old timey glow of candles and vintage lightbulbs.

Front Desk & Check-In

Check-in was conducted on floating island stations via laptops (an Andaz signature) and was quick and easy.

We were informed on the spot that we had been upgraded from a “Guest Room, 1 King Bed” room to a “2 King Beds Deluxe” room on a higher floor with a view of the town.

Room Entrance

Our room was large and chock full of Andaz quirks and amenities. I did notice that this andaz was not quite as upscale as others I had stayed at when it came to details such as the coffee machine, in this case a Keurig, and the empty mini fridge.

Room Condition

Although the room was clean where it counted (beds, bathroom), it also appeared to have been heavily trafficked and the location of many-a-party (see the nightshade).

Mercantile Terrace

After checking-in and dropping the bags off in our room, we headed to Mercantile Terrace, the second-floor rooftop patio bar.

Like the lobby, I really enjoyed look and feel and overall vibe of the terrace bar.

To be sure, it was a popular place for a summertime afternoon drink, as we arrived around 4:00 PM and the patio and cabanas were almost all full.

Drinks At Mercantile Terrace

We went with the red wine and a “cigar bar” cocktail (a smoky concoction made of mescal, dark rum and gran classico – which although very good – was a little too smoky for my taste).

Dinner At Tarla Mediterranean Bar + Grill (Next Door To Andaz Napa)

We ate dinner at Tarla Mediterranean Bar + Grill, which I believe was [technically] in the same building as the Andaz Napa, but was unaffiliated and accessed from the street side (around the corner from the hotel lobby).

I had a Gyro plate (which was excellent!) and a local brew, Barrel Brothers “Dad Pants Pilzner”.

The restaurant was great, and I can highly recommend it if you’re in the mood for some good, authentic Mediterranean food.

Breakfast At Andaz Farmers Table

We ate at Andaz Farmers Table for breakfast (which was complementary for Hyatt Globalists).

We went with the Andaz Chipotle Eggs Benedict, the French Toast, and a Greek Yogurt Parfait. All were delicious (as expected).

The Bottom-Line Review: Andaz Napa (California)

We had a good time at the Andaz Napa.

Although not half as impressive as Alila Napa Valley (another Hyatt property), Andaz Napa had a special charm unto itself.

It had a good location which put us walking distance to all the various restaurants, bars, shopping and wine tasting that Downtown Napa had offer (in contrast to Alila Napa Valley, which was secluded on its own private vineyard).

The in-house Mercantile Terrace and Andaz Farmers Table were great eateries, as was Tarla Mediterranean Bar + Grill downstairs.

I can easily recommend Andaz Napa for Bachelorette parties, girl-trip weekends, and couples looking for a romantic getaway.

Final Rating: 8.5 out 10
