In 2018, I checked a number of bucket-list items off my list, including Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany.
The following is my review of the hotel I stayed at for Oktoberfest, the Aloft Munich.
Review: Aloft Munich (Munich, Germany)
Location
I straight-up chose the Aloft Munich because of its location. That, and its point redemption value of course – but I’ll get to that in a minute.
Located directly across the street from the Munich Central Train Station, in the heart of Munich, the Aloft Munich was only [a very pleasant] 20 minute walk from Theresienwiese (the grounds where Oktoberfest is held).
Getting There
Getting to the Aloft Munich was simple and took only 45 minutes by train (S-Bahn), direct from MUC Airport to Munich Central Station.
The Redemption
The Aloft Munich is a Category 5 property, but I was able to snag it for only 10,000 SPG Starpoints a night (30,000 Marriott Rewards points a night) during Oktoberfest.
What makes this a great deal is the hotel was going for $431.30 EUR ($495 US) a night. This means I was getting a 1.7 cpp value on Marriott Rewards points, amazing!
The Check-In
The front desk check-in was located in a small round stand near the elevators.
Staff members (working on laptops) quickly recognized me for my Marriott status (Platinum?), thanked me for choosing to stay with Aloft, told me I’d be getting free breakfast during my stay, and handed me my Platinum room keys.
I was also handed the following stack of Aloft paraphernalia (which included a free drink!).
The Hallway
The Bedroom
Clean and comfortable, and I mean that in the highest compliment.

The WXYZ Bar
Located pretty much in the front window of the lobby, the WXYZ Bar was quite a popular scene at night. At least every night I was there – which was every night.
Re:Fuel
Re:Fuel is the name of the little deli located right behind the front desk kiosk.
It’s also the place where breakfast is served in the morning.
The Fitness Center
Great Things Nearby
I mentioned the Aloft Munich is a great location for Oktoberfest. Well, it’s also just a plain great location for Munich.
Literally next door to the Aloft Munich is the excellent Bavarian restaurant Munchner Stubn. This place serves great German comfort food fare and great local Paulaner Beer (an Oktoberfest brew). I also found myself here on multiple nights.
Rubenbauer Genusswelten is a large market area located inside of the Munich Central Train Station. Here you’ll find a couple of grocery stores (that sell local Bavarian beers!), restaurants, coffee joints, drug stores, bakeries, etc. Pretty much anything you may need, whenever you may need it.
Make sure you try the warm pretzels with Brie cheese – they are awesome.
The Bottom Line Review: Aloft Munich (Munich, Germany)
The Aloft Hotel was the absolute perfect hotel for my stay in Munich. The location couldn’t be beat, the access to the train station, Central Munich, local breweries, and of course Oktoberfest, was everything I could have wanted.
The hotel itself was a great value on point redemptions and was exceedingly clean, comfortable, modern, and trendy (in a good way). The bar was lively at night, and the breakfast spot was lively in the morning. Simply put, I had a wonderful stay at the Aloft Munich.
Highly Recommended (especially during Oktoberfest)!
Cheers!
