I just got hit with the $595 annual fee for the Business Platinum Card From American Express.
So, I did what I always do – I made the annual retention inquiry call to American Express.

I quickly got a representative, told him I was trying to determine if I should keep the card. I explained I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pay $595 to keep the Business Platinum Card – especially when I found little travel use for it during the pandemic.
I asked him if there were any fee waivers or retention offers available to me.
He took a moment to look up my information and then came back and said, “I see you have been a loyal American Express member for many years now; well, to thank you for your loyalty we’d like to offer you a one-time loyalty credit of $595 if you decide to keep the card”.

As it turned out, with all the incentives AMEX added to the card, I was able to wring about $895 in net value out of the Business Platinum Card From American Express during 2020.
$595 to keep the card? Yes please. I of course accepted that offer.
