What You Need To Know About The Changes Coming To The Chase Marriott Suite Of Cards
The Chase Marriott Rewards Credit Card
The Chase Marriott Rewards credit card is sticking around with the $85 annual fee, but with some refreshed changes. Most notably, the annual free anniversary night is getting a de facto devaluation as it will now only get you a free night at a property up to 25,000 points.
You will still earn 15 elite night credits, but this credit is also devalued as you can now only earn this benefit once per person per year (this effectively voids this benefit if you have it on other Marriott or SPG credit cards). The 1 elite night per every $3,000 spent benefit remains intact.
The Chase Marriott Rewards Business Credit Card
The Chase Marriott Rewards Business credit card is sticking around with the $99 annual fee, but with some refreshed changes as well. Like the personal version of this card, the annual free anniversary night is getting a de facto devaluation as it will now only get you a free night at a property up to 25,000 points.
You will still earn 15 elite night credits, but this credit is also devalued as you can now only earn this benefit once per person per year (this effectively voids this benefit if you have it on other Marriott or SPG credit cards). The 1 elite night per every $3,000 spent benefit and the ability to earn Gold Elite status by spending $50,000 in a card year remains intact.
The Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Credit Card
The Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card is Chase’s newest Marriott Rewards card, and it currently comes with a welcome offer of 75,000 Marriott Rewards points.
The Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card does see several improvements over the previous legacy cards.
With the increased annual fee of $95 comes an increase in the value of the annual free anniversary night, up to 35,000 points. Also seeing a notable improvement is the earning structure with 6x at Marriott and SPG properties and 2x everywhere else.
This card also comes with 15 elite nights (with restrictions), Gold Elite status with $35,000 annual spend, and free in-room wifi.
The Bottom Line: What You Need To Know About The Changes Coming To The Chase Marriott Suite Of Cards
At best, Chase’s new Marriott Card seems to have minor improvements over the previous legacy cards. Is it enough to get people to switch or sign-up for this card even with the $10 increase in the annual fee? I would suspect so.
But overall, I think these cards are somewhat lackluster, especially when compared against another new Chase hotel card – the exciting new Chase World of Hyatt credit card.
The current welcome bonus is for 75,000 Marriott Rewards points, but I suspect there may be some 100,000 point offers out there as well. There are also upgrade offers floating around for current personal Marriott Rewards legacy card holders, so do check if you have an offer if you are even vaguely interested in upgrading your card.
Cheers!
