Marriott has [surprisingly] added a new limited-time spending offer for grocery stores across all of the credit cards in their portfolio.
But is it a good offer?
Limited-Time Offer: Earn 6X On Groceries With All Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards
From May 1 through July 31, 2020, you will earn 6X points at grocery stores with your Marriott Bonvoy credit card.
This is automatic, no enrollment or activation is required.
Eligible Bonvoy Credit Cards
Cards that will earn 4 points on top of the 2 points they already earn on grocery purchases:
- Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™
- Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier Plus Business
- The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card
Cards that will earn 5 points on top of the 1 point they already earn on grocery purchases:
- Marriott Bonvoy Bold™
- Marriott Bonvoy™
- Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier
- Marriott Bonvoy Business™
The Bottom-Line: Limited-Time Offer: Earn 6X On Groceries With All Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards
It’s good to see hotels and credit cards rapidly changing their offers to adapt to the changing times during 2020.
With that said, this is just a decent offer. I value Marriott Bonvoy points at around .6 cents a point, so this offer is worth about a 3.6% return on grocery spending.
This maybe great if you don’t have a credit card that already earns more than that on grocery spending.
If you do have one of those cards, like the 4X Membership Rewards point on the American Express Gold card, or the 4.5X on the American Express Everyday Preferred card, those cards will still be the better choice.
There are also some competing limited-time offers out there from cards such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the World of Hyatt Card (among others), so it can pay to check the cards you already have to maximize your grocery spending. YPMV.
