Last night, I went to bed dreading the fight I thought I was going to have with IHG this morning.
Way back in February of this year, I booked a non-refundable, two-night stay at a luxury IHG hotel in California.
Well, since then, the pandemic happened and I noticed that IHG changed their cancellation policy to include all stays [including non-refundable rooms] that were booked before April 6, 2020, for stays through June 30, 2020.
Unfortunately, my stay was to begin July 17, 2020.
To add insult to injury, I noticed IHG wasn’t even selling non-refundable rooms anymore (through the rest of 2020), my room rate had now dropped drastically, and the room I was about to pay an “arm and a leg” for was now even eligible for a free Chase IHG award night!
Good News! IHG Extends The Date For No-Penalty Cancellations
Well, as I logged in to my IHG account this morning, I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
IHG had officially extended their cancellation policy through August 31, 2020.
Here’s a screen shot from the official IHG Travel Advisory webpage:

Luckily, I was able to call and cancel my non-refundable and [now] extremely overpriced reservation with no problems whatsoever.
It couldn’t have been easier. No fight required.
If you are in this same boat, be sure to check the IHG Travel Advisory webpage because you’ve just been given a bit more time – even for those pesky non-fundable or overpriced reservations.
Cheers!
