Last year (2020), Chase allowed its Ritz-Carlton credit card holders to use the $300 Travel Credit on groceries for a portion of the year during the pandemic.
As the pandemic is very much still raging in 2021, I reached out to Chase to see if the Travel Credit would continue to be usable on groceries into this year.
Well, I got an Official answer from Chase.
Confirmed: Can You Use The Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card’s $300 Travel Credit On Groceries In 2021?
The Answer? “No“.

The Bottom-Line: Confirmed: Can You Use The Chase Ritz-Carlton Credit Card’s $300 Travel Credit On Groceries In 2021?
I have to admit, I was actually surprised by this confirmation from Chase.
It makes no sense to allow holders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve to continue using that card’s $300 Travel Credit toward groceries (and gas) through June 2021, but to slight holders of the Chase Ritz-Carlton card on that card’s own $300 Travel Credit.
As far as I can tell, it will still not be any easier to use the $300 Travel Credit on “non-ticket purchases” on air travel in 2021.
Come on Chase. You did the right thing last year. You need to do better in 2021.
