We’ve recently seen several airline credit cards get much needed makeovers. Not to be outdone, Citibusiness is adding new benefits to its AAdvantage Platinum Select card.
But do the new benefits do anything to increase the value of this card?
The Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select Card Gets New Benefits
The New Benefits Added
The Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select card is adding 2x earning on cable and satellite service purchases. This is in addition to the 2x you already earn on eligible American Airlines purchases and certain telecommunication and rental car merchants and at gas stations.
Also, your card will now get you 25% savings on inflight Wi-Fi on American Airlines.
 The Benefits Staying The Same
The Membership Fee Is Going Up
It’s not all good news however. The annual fee on this card will increase from $95 a year to $99 a year.
The Bottom Line: The Citibusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select Card Gets New Benefits
With the addition of 2x miles on cable and satellite service purchases and 25% off of inflight Wi-Fi, Citibusiness has really discovered the smallest benefit increase possible. For me, these additional “benefits” really don’t amount to much – just a $4 increase in the annual fee.
I actually have this card, but I really can’t see a reason to keep it any longer as there are many other cards with more valuable point currencies that earn more in most of these categories (Chase Ink Business Cash comes to mind).
Even if you are a hardcore fan flying American Airlines for business all the time, this card just doesn’t provide much value. I was wondering if I should keep this card for any reason, but now they’ve made my choice easy for me. Disappointing Citi!
Cheers!
