Great news this week as Citi has just announced a surprise upgrade to one of the most valuable cards travel-hacking: The Citi AT&T Access More card.
The Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card Gets A Surprise Upgrade
The World Elite Mastercard Upgrade
You heard right. Citi just sent out this email notification about the Citi AT&T Access More card being upgraded to a World Elite Mastercard:
What This Means For You
Although many people believe the comparable Visa Signature and Visa Infinite cards to be superior, World Elite Mastercards are not without their own merits.
Aside from the benefits mentioned in the email above, World Elite Mastercards give you access to additional luxury travel benefits.
Chief among the World Elite benefits is the World Elite Air Program, where you can save anywhere from 12-25% off qualifying airfares.
There is also the World Elite Rental Car Program, where you can get special offers and save up to 35% on rental cars from Avis, Enterprise, Sixt, and others.
Why Is The AT&T Access More Card So Valuable?
Although this news isn’t quite earth-shattering, it’s a welcome upgrade to this little-known card that I believe is surprisingly undervalued. Why? The earning structure is one of the best of any card:
Yes, you read that correctly – 3x on retail and travel websites plus 10,000 Thank You points every year when you spend $10,000 annually.
This effectively means (assuming you spend at least $10,000 on this card in a year), the least you can earn is 2x on all purchases! It also means the most you can earn is 4x on travel and retail websites! No other card can beat that!
I value Citi Thank You points at 1.25 ppc; so 10,000 Thank You Points at 4x = $500 alone.
There Is A Problem – You Can’t Apply For This Card Anymore
It appears Citi realized this card was perhaps a little too valuable. They’ve since removed all links and applications for this card from their website.
But There Is A Hidden Way To Still Get This Card – Product Change
However, the AT&T Access More card has a “sister card” (the AT&T Access card) that is still available and you can apply for it here.
Once you receive the AT&T Access card, or any other Citi card that earns Thank You points (like the Citi Preferred, Premier, or Prestige cards), you can product change these cards to the AT&T Access More card.
The Bottom Line:Â The Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card Gets A Surprise Upgrade
It makes sense that Citi and Mastercard would make this card a World Elite Mastercard, as it is technically the highest earning card on [online] travel at 4x and Citi would like nothing more than to have you spend all of your travel dollars on their cards.
This move adds some extra benefits and perks to this already super-valuable card, and that’s always welcome in my book.
Cheers!
