Editor’s Note: This post is part of my Myanmar–Thailand trip to Asia. For more on this trip, check out my other posts on Myanmar, Thailand, and Japan.
On a recent trip to Asia, I was sound asleep aboard a Japan Airlines (JAL) Boeing 777-300, when we hit a small patch of turbulence. On the map display, I noticed we were over Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, so I opened my sun shade to see if I could see anything.
To my surprise, right out my window, was a massive snow-capped volcano. I quickly reached for my iPhone and started snapping away.
Aerial Photos: Flying Over The Cleveland Volcano (Chuginadak Island, Aleutian Islands, Alaska)
Here’s the shots I got of the Cleveland Volcano on Chuginadak Island.
About Mt. Cleveland
Mt. Cleveland is one of the most active of 75 volcanoes in Alaska’s Aleutian Island chain. The island it sits on, Chuginadak Island, takes its name from the native Aleutian people’s fire goddess.
The Cleveland Volcano last erupted in 2016 and has erupted at least 22 times in the last 230 years.
Cheers!
