Six hours after our authentic Japanese sake bombs, we landed in Bangkok, Thailand – truly one of the great cities of the world.

Here, we stayed the night at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok.

Review: Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok (Bangkok, Thailand)

Location

The Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok is located in a posh sector of Bangkok along a “hotel row” that includes the St. Regis Bangkok, the InterContinental Bangkok, and the Waldorf Astoria (among others).

Closest to its namesake, the Erawan Shrine, the Grand Hyatt Bangkok is just steps away from several high-end malls, multiple embassies, and numerous choices for fine dining.

Getting There

Getting to the Grand Hyatt is easy, as it sits conveniently between two main train stations, Chit Lom and Ratchadamri (take your pick).

From BKK International Airport, this train ride will take you about 50 minutes (including transfers) but will likely be the cheapest (and fastest) option.

In our case, we arrived to BKK after midnight (when the trains stop running) and had to take a taxi direct to the hotel at a cost of about 500 Baht.

The Redemption

As a Category 4 hotel, our Twin Room (View) went for 15,000 World of Hyatt points or 6,972.41 Baht (about $220.70) on the Saturday night we stayed there (a cpp value of 1.46 – not stellar for a Hyatt, but still good).

The Check-In

We arrived way after midnight and were warmly welcomed to the hotel by the doorman and attentively greeted at the front desk.

They immediately recognized my World of Hyatt status and offered me an upgrade to a “high-floor”. Check-in was fast and courteous and we were in our room within 5 minutes.

The Lobby

The lobby itself was somewhat dark, albeit classy. Some have called this hotel a bit dated, but I actually found it to be warm, clean, and upscale; certainly in-line with similar market hotels in Bangkok (and Southeast Asia).

The Bedroom

Well-lit and cozy, the bedroom was a welcome site for sore-eyes. Again, clean, classy, and upscale with just the right touch of Southeast Asian flair.

The Bathroom

I don’t usually say this, but my favorite part of this room was the bathroom. Everything was on point.

Although, not a “steam shower”, it might as well have been. The water pressure was high, the temperature hot, and the rain shower head really poured hard.

I’ll put it this way, I was in this hotel maybe 9 hours total, but I made time for two showers.

The View From The Room

So what exactly does a “high-floor” room get you? A perfect Bangkok sunrise, that’s what.

Breakfast At The Grand Club Lounge

I cashed in an Explorist Club Lounge reward for breakfast at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok’s Grand Club Lounge and I was not disappointed.

The spread was nice, if not typical for a Club Lounge. There were plenty of options for fruit, fish, meats and cheeses, yogurts, juices, and a wide variety of baked goods and cereals.

As always, I went with the chocolate croissants

The lounge provided coffee service, but you could also grab your own coffee at the automated coffee maker.

Hotel Amenities

Chock full of dining options, the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok has a little something for everybody.

Although I didn’t get to try it, there is a restaurant spearheaded by Michelin-starred Chef Hans Zahner called Tables Grille.

Other choices included the Spasso Restaurant and Bar, The Dining Room, You & Mee, and The Erawan Bakery (among others).

The Bottom Line Review: Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok (Bangkok, Thailand)

Overall, I was pleased with my first stay at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. This hotel makes a great choice for first-time visitors to Bangkok or people that want a safe, central location for a “home-base” with easy access to the trains.

The hotel is a little dark, but also definitely warm, classy and upscale – with great service and comfortable rooms with plenty of amenities.

Although not the best Hyatt point redemption value in the Hyatt portfolio, this property has something the other Hyatts in Bangkok don’t – location, location, location.

For that, the price is on market and hotel is a solid choice.

Final Rating: Highly Recommended!

Cheers!
