The M Life And Hyatt “Flip-Flop”, “Free-Park”, And “Triple-Dip”

As you’ve probably surmised by now, as a “Los Angeleno”, I’m a huge fan of the regular “weekend Vegas road trip”, and thus I’m a huge fan of both M Life and Hyatt.

The M Life And Hyatt “Flip-Flop”, “Free-Park”, And “Triple-Dip”

It goes without saying that M Life has some of the best hotel properties in Las Vegas, including Aria, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, and MGM Grand.

As if that weren’t enough, I have become a huge fan of both M Life and Hyatt due to the many perks that having a Chase Hyatt credit card provides.

The “Flip-Flop”:

The “flip-flop” is a way to take advantage of the M Life and Hyatt status match that can allow you to potentially remain a M Life Gold member and Hyatt Explorist member forever (or at least until M Life or Hyatt stops it).

It works because M Life and Hyatt have differing status expiration calendars. The M Life calendar expires annually in September, and the Hyatt status calendar expires every year in February.

For example, say you matched your M Life Gold and Hyatt Explorist status today, your M Life status would expire in September – at which point your could use your [still active] Hyatt Explorist status to match back to M Life Gold.

Likewise, you could then use your M Life Gold to status match you back to Hyatt Explorist when it expires in February – keeping you M Life Gold and Hyatt Explorist forever – you just have to remember to set a calendar notification to remind you when to status match.

Who Can Take Advantage Of It?

If you were smart enough (or lucky enough) to use your Chase Hyatt credit card to match status to M Life Gold BEFORE Hyatt changed their rewards program to the World of Hyatt program, you are already golden and you can take advantage of the “flip-flop”.

It’s also possible you started at the M Life status level Sapphire or Pearl and worked your way up to Hyatt Explorist or M Life Gold. If so, you too can take full advantage of the “flip-flop”.

However, if you got your Chase Hyatt credit card AFTER the World of Hyatt program was implemented, your Discoverist status would now match to M Life Pearl status and the “flip-flop” wouldn’t help out at all.

The “Free-Park”:

Now that your familiar with the Chase Hyatt credit card and M Life and Hyatt status, it’s time to learn how to get free parking.

M Life Pearl status (or above) will get you free parking at all M Life Hotel and Casinos in Las Vegas. Even better, M Life Gold status will get you free valet parking!

The “Triple-Dip”:

Hopefully, you already know that booking directly with a hotel gives you status credits and hotel points. This pretty much only works if you book directly with the hotel (as opposed to a third party booking site like Hotels.com or Booking.com, etc.).

Well, there is another loophole that seems to be working for now that allows for a “triple-dip” on points. If you’ve read my previous posts on Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts (LHRC) program or American Express’s Fine Hotels and Resorts (FHR) program, you know that you can get lucrative resort credits ($150-$160 resort credits!) just by booking through those programs.

What you may not know is that – although technically not possible per the terms of M Life and Hyatt – in practice, you can earn both M Life and Hyatt points for your stay – in addition to earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points (if you booked through Chase’s LHRC program) or Membership Rewards points (if you booked through American Express’s FHR program).

For example, say you booked through Chase’s LHRC program, when you check-in at the front desk you’d provide them with your M Life number and your World of Hyatt number, and you’d earn points in both programs (I can confirm this). Additionally, you’d earn 3x UR points by using your Chase Sapphire Reserve!

Likewise, say you booked through Amex’s FHR program, when you check-in at the front desk you’d provide them with your M Life number and your World of Hyatt number, again earning points in both programs. Additionally, you’d earn 5x MR points by using your American Express Platinum card!

The Bottom Line: The M Life And Hyatt “Flip-Flop”, “Free-Park”, And “Triple-Dip”

Now you can see why I’m such a fan of M Life and Hyatt when staying in Las Vegas.

You should note, that just because these “travel hacks” work now, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll work into the future. In fact, I’d argue the “flip-flop” and “triple-dip’s” days are numbered. Which means you should move quickly to take advantage of them before M Life and/or Hyatt put a stop to these hacks.

As a reminder, if you haven’t yet status matched M Life to Hyatt, you need to do so ASAP. Hyatt status expires February 28!

Cheers!
