THE FHOP BOTTOM-LINE 10 RATINGS: Thompson Hollywood
The Bottom-Line Review: Positives & Negatives
The Bottom-Line Review: Thompson Hollywood
All in all, I rate the Thompson Hollywood a respectable 8.1 out of 10.
The Thompson Hollywood delivers in terms of the overall service, dining and bar options, and their treatment of World of Hyatt elites. The pre-check-in Suite upgrade was a nice touch, as was the excellent breakfast at the make-shift Bar Lis location (I’m told they do share a kitchen).
Speaking of location, yes, Thompson Hollywood is smack in the heart of Hollywood (although that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s a good thing). This section of Hollywood can be crowded, run-down, and overall a little sketch. The room condition, while certainly not a deal-breaker, was noticeably dusty and there was some significant stains on the carpet by the bed. I also think this hotel, like all other Thompson Hotels I’ve been to, is over-priced and a Category too high in terms of point redemption value.
For whatever reason, I’m just not that in to the Thompson Hotel overall brand vibe. But there are a lot of people who are, and for those people, I’m sure this hotel will be right down their alley. That said, I’m still rating it an 8.1 out of 10 as I think it will be popular choice for tourists, singles, couples, and some business travelers – although I wouldn’t recommend it for families with kids, older people, or people looking for a relaxing California vacation.
