Hiking Tour Of The Grand Prismatic Spring Trail In Yellowstone National Park
Hiking The Grand Prismatic Spring Trail In Yellowstone National Park’s Midway Geyser Basin, In Wyoming.
About The Grand Prismatic Spring Trail
The Grand Prismatic Spring is the crown jewel of the Midway Geyser Basin. Here, a 0.8-mile boardwalk winds its way around several hot springs, including the Grand Prismatic. As you stroll along this well-maintained elevated path, you’ll get up close to the vibrant colors of the spring, which result from microbial life along its edges. The hues can change based on the presence of different microbes and water temperature.
Parking at the Midway Geyser Basin can be challenging due to limited space. If the main lot is full, consider using the large turnouts on the park road near the basin. Arriving early can help you to beat the crowds, but be aware that the spring is often covered in mist during the morning hours, which can diminish visibility of the spring. For those wanting a scenic view of the spring from above, the nearby Grand Prismatic Spring Overlook trail is worth checking out.
