On a recent twilight flight, I spotted something out of my window that I had never seen before.

A formation resembling a row of pyramids or the scales on the back of a crocodile. It almost looked man-made.

Where was this and what was it?

Spoiler Alert: The Answer Is Below!

After doing some research on Google Maps, I finally found it – see the picture below.

The formation I spotted out of my window was a mountain range east of the town of Monclova in the Mexican State of Coahuila (which actually borders Texas).

It turns out Coahuila – and its neighboring Mexican States of Nuevo Leon and Chihuahua – are filled with similar formations.

There is even a National Park near Monterrey, Mexico named Cumbres de Monterrey National Park (translation “Summits”) that is filled with a related and continuous landscape.

Who knew? I certainly didn’t.
