American Express is adding valuable new benefits to their Business Platinum Card.

While this may come as a surprise, it makes a lot of business sense.

American Express Adds Valuable New Benefits To The Business Platinum Card

Due to the travel limitations in 2020, Amex has decided to [temporarily] add new benefits to offset the now near-impossible-to-use travel benefits of the Business Platinum Card and to justify the card’s hefty $595 annul fee.

The New Business Platinum Card Benefits

Amex has added an additional $200 credit to the current $200 Dell benefit, a new $160 credit ($20 per month) for eligible wireless telephone services, and a new $160 credit ($20 per month) for eligible shipping costs.

Take note however, there are important dates to use the credits by, and American Express is still imposing their [annoying] piecemeal credit strategy (purely for breakage purposes).

This means the wireless and shipping credits can only be used in small $20 monthly increments, and the $200 Dell credits must be used over two 6-month periods (rather than via an easier $400 lump sum credit).

The Bottom-Line: American Express Adds Valuable New Benefits To The Business Platinum Card

While annoying in the way they are implemented, these new benefits are still great on a couple of levels.

  • Amex acted quickly to mitigate the loss of value to its cardholders.
  • The value of the card is increased by up to $520 in new benefits.
  • There’s nothing officially precluding one from using the remaining travel benefits ($200 airline incidental credits, Fine Hotels And Resorts, etc.) if and when semi-normal travel resumes in 2020.
  • Amex has realized the value of keeping their cardholders happy (even if they are supposedly not giving out retention offers at this time).

Bravo American Express for giving us all some great reasons to get (or keep) the Business Platinum Card through 2020.
